Some stuff about me
Hailing from New Orleans, this eclectic singer has a vocal style that is as distinctive and as rich as the nuances of her venerable native city. From the texture of her voice to every subtlety with which she renders a song, combined with her keen story-telling ability, Lisa proves with every performance that she is more than just a singer.

Lisa's musical journey began at an early age. She grew up the only child of schoolteachers, and listened mostly to Rock music. She was introduced to the world of instrumental music at age eight when she learned to play the clarinet. She later mastered the flute and piccolo and performed in Mardi Gras parades and concerts for several years. About that same time, Lisa began her singing career and performed in musicals and talent shows and after graduating, took a short detour from musical studies to complete her college degree in Economics at Howard University in Washington, D. C. She subsequently returned to music and began performing with a local D.C. Rock band Feast or Famine.

While studying for her Masters Degree at Georgetown Univeristy, Lisa got the creative bug and migrated to Los Angeles in 1996 to take advantage of the various musical opportunities available on the West Coast. Since moving, she's performed with EMI recording artists, The Solsonics, toured local venues with a Gathering of the Goddesses, (a collective of four vocalists who perform individually with a Folk/Rock band) and with her own Jazz quintet featuring David Ake on piano. She sings everything from Folk/Blues, to Rock/Pop, to Straight-Ahead Jazz/Acid Jazz and she's done background vocals for various recording projects, including Dave Holland from The Offspring and Laura Satterfield (niece of Rita Coolidge) from the group Walela. In December, 1999, Lisa was honored when she was asked to sing the National Anthem at the Los Angeles Lakers basketball game to a sold out crowd of 18,000 at The Staples Center Arena.

Lisa has also done her share of musicals too. In 1996, she was a featured artist in KSLG Jazz Radio, a show which re-enacted radio entertainment of the 1940's. In 1999, she was cast as God in God's Trombones, a Rock musical directed by Valerie Mayhew, based on the seven sermons of Harlem Renaissance poet James Weldon Johnson. In 2000, she was cast as part of the ensemble in Stephen Schwartz's Godspell at the esteemed Knightsbridge Theatre in Pasadena, California.

Lisa believes that music is a powerful form of universal expression that exists beyond time, space and language. She is constantly in search of ways to broaden her musical horizon and studies musical expression at every opportunity. Lisa's distinctive sound, unique musical approach, and inspired creativity lend an element of individuality that may prove to be integral to the evolution of music as a spiritual art form.
